How Our Estimator Tools Work

Three free tools to help you figure out what you need, what it costs, and how to get it delivered — before you make a trip to the yard.

Material Estimator

Enter your project's dimensions — length, width, and depth — and the estimator calculates how much material you need. It works for rectangular, circular, and triangular areas. You'll see results in cubic yards, bags, and estimated weight in tons, so you know exactly what to order.

How to use it

  1. 1 Pick your shape — rectangle, circle, or triangle — and enter the measurements in feet.
  2. 2 Set the depth in inches. The default is 3 inches, which works for most decorative applications. The tool tells you if it's using the default.
  3. 3 Hit Calculate. You'll see cubic yards, bags needed, and estimated tons. We add 10% extra to account for settling and uneven ground.
  4. 4 Browse materials and add them to your quote. Pricing updates automatically based on your calculated quantity.

Order Builder

Once you know what you need, the order builder lets you fine-tune your order. Adjust quantities, switch between yards and bags, add multiple materials, and see your total with delivery costs. Items you added in the estimator carry over automatically.

Delivery Fees

Enter your delivery address to see the exact fee. Orders of 4+ cubic yards within 15 miles qualify for free delivery. Smaller orders are $34 (3 yards), $65 (2 yards), or $89 (1 yard or less).

Quantity Minimums

Bulk orders go in quarter-yard increments (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00…). Bags are sold in whole numbers. The minimum bulk order is a quarter yard.

Quote & Delivery Slip

When your order looks right, you can print it or save it as a PDF. The quote shows every material, quantity, unit price, delivery fee, and grand total — the same format our yard uses for delivery slips. You can also share it as a link that anyone can open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the estimate a guaranteed price?
No. The estimator gives you an approximate quote based on current pricing and the dimensions you enter. Final pricing is confirmed when you place your order at the yard or over the phone. Material prices may change without notice.
How accurate is the material calculation?
The calculator uses standard landscape industry formulas. For rectangular and circular areas, it's very accurate if your measurements are correct. For irregular shapes, we recommend measuring the closest rectangular area that covers your project and adding 5-10% extra.
What does "depth" mean and why does it default to 3 inches?
Depth is how thick you want the material layer. 3 inches is the most common depth for decorative rock, bark, and ground cover. If you're building a base layer or filling a planter bed, you may need 4-6 inches. The estimator shows you when it's using the default so you can adjust it.
Should I order in cubic yards or bags?
For projects larger than about 1-2 cubic yards, bulk (by the yard) is almost always cheaper and more convenient — we deliver it. Bags are better for small projects, tight access areas, or when you want to haul it yourself. The estimator shows you both options with pricing.
How is the delivery fee calculated?
Delivery fees are based on the distance from our yard to your delivery address and the size of your order. Larger orders may qualify for free or reduced delivery. Enter your address in the order builder to see the exact fee. For deliveries over 30 miles, please call us for a custom quote.
Can I share my estimate with someone else?
Yes. Click the share button on your estimate to get a link you can text or email to a contractor, spouse, or anyone else. They'll see the same itemized estimate with quantities and pricing. The link works on any device.
Why do I see different tools (Estimator vs Order Builder)?
The Material Estimator helps you figure out how much material you need based on your project dimensions. The Order Builder lets you fine-tune quantities, add delivery, and generate a formal quote. You can start in either one — items carry over between them.
Does the estimator work on my phone?
Yes. All three tools — the estimator, order builder, and quote generator — work on phones, tablets, and desktop computers. No app download needed.
Is my information saved?
Your estimate is saved in your browser so you can come back to it later. We don't require an account or login. If you clear your browser data, your saved estimate will be removed. Use the share link to keep a permanent copy.
