Why customers asked for it
Matches what you already have
It comes from the same rock as 3/8", 3/4" and 1 1/2" Fortune Gold, so a pathfines walkway between Fortune Gold beds reads as one material. It's also the closest match we carry to the discontinued Sonoma Gold.
Becomes a surface, not loose gravel
Fines lock together once they're watered and compacted. It feels firm underfoot, doesn't scatter with foot traffic, and takes a wheelbarrow or stroller without rutting.
Lets water through
It drains instead of puddling, which is why it works for paths, dog runs and play areas that need to dry out quickly after rain.
Lay a path in an afternoon
-
Prepare the base
Strip turf and loose soil about 3 inches deep. Set edging now if you want a crisp line.
-
Spread it out
Dump and rake to an even 2 to 3 inches, slightly proud of the finished height.
-
Water lightly
Mist with a hose until damp, not soaked. The moisture is what lets the fines bind.
-
Compact
Run a lawn roller or plate compactor over it. Water and compact again for a harder finish.

Is this the same as Sonoma Gold?
It isn't the same product, but Fortune Gold is the closest we carry to the discontinued Sonoma Gold in color, shape and size. Most customers use it to match existing installations.
Do I need edging?
Not strictly, but steel, plastic or stone edging keeps the line crisp and stops fines migrating into the lawn over time.
Can I drive on it?
Compacted at 4 inches over a firm base it handles light traffic such as an RV pad or a secondary drive. For a main driveway, call us to talk through the base.
How much upkeep does it need?
An occasional rake and a light re-compaction after heavy rain. A thin top-up every few years brings it back to new.
